I’ve never seen a case where a suit has been brought because a cesarean was performed. The mentality of the obstetricians in their training is, “When in doubt, cut. Don’t take the chance, it’s not worth it.” The old-school doctors have long since moved on. They struggle because they grew up with the risk of cesarean. It’s not a benign procedure. It increases the risk of mortality and morbidity eight-fold, but most women believe that it’s no big deal. It’s still a big deal. But that whole mentality has shifted because of the reality of knowing that if [physicians] get a bad outcome without intervening, they are going to get sued. They know that and they are trained that way.
